How to Build Interactive Learning Games With Rapid Intake

Games add fun, motivation, and interest to e-Learning, and when correctly used they can also ensure that learners retain the skills and knowledge taught in the course. Setting up a game is simple, as this example using Rapid Intake demonstrates.

What's in a game? Motivation, that's what. Include a game in your course and learners are likely to jump there first. Add more than just spice to your e-Learning courses – games will improve learner retention while adding some fun to your learning content.

Let’s take a look at how easy it is to add any of the several learning games in Rapid Intake Unison (see Figure 1).

Begin with a game page

Start by adding a game page to your course. For this example, I’ve used the Jeopardy-style game Scatterbrain. Having selected the game template, all that’s necessary is to fill out the content, step-by-step.

Step 1. Give the game a title.

The template makes this step easy. (See Figure 2.)

Step 2. Provide the instructions for the game.

Leave the default game instructions or modify them to fit your game. (See Figure 3.)

Step 3. Create categories and assign point values

For Jeopardy, create five different categories for the learners to choose from and assign each row a point value. (See Figure 4.)

Step 4: Add the game questions and answers.

Type in your game questions for each category. All you have to do is type it in, choose possible answers, and then indicate which answer is correct. (See Figure 5.)

Step 5: Choose your audio settings.

You have your choice of a number of audible cues and feedback sounds. (See Figure 6.)

Preview your game!

Your game is finished, and the last step in the process is to preview and test it. (See Figure 7.) You’re done!
