Breakthrough PerformanceTech Introduces Performance Drilling At DevLearn|10

New e-Learning solution applies Verbal Performance methodology and instant authoring.

Breakthrough PerformanceTech (BPT) will present Performance Drilling at DevLearn|10, November 3-5. The company calls this a game-changing Verbal Performance Simulator that guarantees high volumes of deliberate, focused and customized verbal practice, and says that it allows course authoring in minutes … including realistic fully automated animations. DevLearn attendees who visit the BPT booth in the Expo will be able to create fully-animated, interactive customized modules on the spot, and take them home on a free USB drive.

Introducing Performance Drilling

BPT states that Performance Drilling modules can be built in minutes by anyone with basic data entry skills. This includes the ability to create realistic, fully-automated avatars.

Breakthrough PerformanceTech provides this example: The CEO tells you that it is critical that everyone gets consistent in their messaging on a key issue immediately. In other words, everybody has to make the same key points when answering an anticipated common question to deal with a hot market issue – TODAY. You are provided with the necessary information as to what the new corporate message is – but can you make the deadline, as it could take a month or longer to deliver a typical e-Learning course? According to BPT, with Performance Drilling you could deliver the same day, or in less than an hour, with plenty of time for the community to be trained and become confidently proficient and consistent.

Changing human interaction patterns and messages normally can take weeks, months or more. With Performance Drilling, BPT claims that verbal communication competency on completely new information takes less than 30 minutes of study before becoming integral in real world implementation.

Breakthrough PerformanceTech’s show theme of “LEARN HOW” expresses their view of the importance that attendees learn how Performance Drilling operates and how it can be immediately implemented for all training that requires performance results. Performance Drilling focuses on doing versus just “knowing.” In today’s competitive environment, “knowing” is no longer sufficient. The organizations that provide excellence in communicating clearly, confidently and consistently will have a significant advantage over their competitors.

Breakthrough PerformanceTech says they will prove that “Impossible Isn’t,” thanks to BPT’s build from scratch design and technology platform that challenges existing training practice. Performance Drilling is said by them to be a real paradigm shift rather than a simple evolutionary improvement of existing eLearning approaches.

Practice is a necessary precursor to success

Practice builds myelin around nerve pathways to ensure fluency, consistency and sustainability. This is accepted as a “given” in athletics, music, medicine, etc. But when it comes to verbal skills that are essential to business (sales, service, leadership/management/coaching, negotiating, compliance, etc.) levels of high quality and high frequency practice and rehearsal are practically non-existent. A couple of “role-plays” no more create mastery than practicing a couple of backhands will make you ready for Wimbledon. BPT maintains that Performance Drilling solves this problem and produces extraordinary levels of usage, unsurpassed feedback and world class performance results, evidenced by controlled studies at major US and international companies.

In one recent deployment, Performance Drilling was the method selected to convince teenage girls from impoverished villages in Kenya to participate in HIV testing … arguably a more daunting task than those faced in companies or most educational institutions. The company reports that the methodology was warmly embraced by the users and perceived as fun and enjoyable as well as uniquely effective. According to BPT, this happens because Performance Drilling eliminates what they see as the tedious, ineffective and wasteful paradigm of traditional e-Learning, and replaces it with something that learners enjoy and benefit from immediately.

The scoring mechanism of Performance Drilling includes content accuracy, initial response time, and confidence levels. All scoring is verbal, to simulate real world environments, rather than multiple choice and true-false questions. As a result, there is no wasted effort in creating “tricky” questions to come up with plausible but incorrect false choices. The instructional design time is said to be greatly reduced and a significant cost savings can be realized. Additionally there is no free-form typing for testing, as this only builds typing skills and not real world performance skills in verbal human interaction.

BPT will be demonstrating Performance Drilling at DevLearn Booth 202, where participants can build and take home their own Modules – containing their content – authored on-the-spot, using this new methodology.
