Dr. Eugene F. M. O’Loughlin holds a Ph.D. from the University of Dublin, Trinity College, and is a Lecturer in Informatics at the National College of Ireland. His main teaching duties are in the area of Learning Technologies at post-graduate level. He also teaches project management, programming, and business systems analysis at under-graduate level. His research is concentrated on blended assessment methods, particularly with online assessment, and with the assessment of discussion groups. Before joining the National College of Ireland, Dr. O’Loughlin worked for 14 years with the e-Learning Company SmartForce (now known as Skillsoft). In SmartForce, he held senior positions in Research and Development, and Global Services.

Blended Assessment in Small to Medium-sized Classes

Educators face a dilemma when they attempt to determine the best method to assess learning. The considerations become more complex with recent advances in blended learning technologies.
