CHELSEA, MICHIGAN, OCTOBER 1, 2018—TorranceLearning announced today that it has released xapi.ly Statement Builder, a tool to enable easier use of xAPI. This tool will broaden the range of xAPI users to include non-coders.
The Experience API (xAPI) is the next step in learning analytics. It makes it possible to collect data about a wide range of learning experiences, both online and offline. The xAPI specification can capture data about a learner’s activities from many technologies and many different systems, such as mobile learning, simulations, serious games, real-world activities, experiential learning, and on-the-job activity.
“We saw a gap in the marketplace between the promise of xAPI and the tools available to make it happen. Over time, the tools will evolve, but in the meantime, xapi.ly bridges that gap, making for a geek-free xAPI experience. eLearning professionals who are not coders can use this tool to add far richer xAPI statements than the built-in capabilities currently allow,” said TorranceLearning CEO Megan Torrance.
“We want to make using xAPI as simple as possible, whether the learning designers and developers can write their own custom code or not,” said Torrance. “We’re all about uplift, and that includes helping our learning and development clients and colleagues shine.”
To that end, TorranceLearning gives back to the L&D community and the world at large. TorranceLearning offers regular workshops on LLAMA, its trademarked approach to using Agile project methods in instructional design, as well as the annual ID Academy Instructional Design series. The company also hosts the ever-popular and still free Download conference and the xAPI Learning Cohort, a free, virtual 12-week learning-by-doing opportunity where teams form on the fly and create proof-of-concept xAPI projects. Over 700 professionals are registered for the Fall 2018 xAPI Cohort, the fifth that the company has hosted. Award-winning projects with their not-for-profit partners reach local teens, elementary school visitors to the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum, and global NGO health services workers in developing countries through Vitamin Angels.
